The McRuffy 4th Grade Color Math Curriculum contains a detailed Teacher’s Manual, colorful Workbook, Response Book, and Resource Pack containing card sets, games, posters, and more. It also includes the corresponding Manipulative Kit.

The McRuffy 4th Grade Color Math follows the same design as 3rd Color Math.

The McRuffy Color Math series uses a spiral approach. Concepts are introduced and reviewed throughout the year. This avoids many curricula’ “learn it and forget it” structure that segments concepts into units. Instead, students continue to build on previous learning throughout the year. Sometimes a concept is expounded on. Periodically a concept is reviewed.

4th Grade concepts include: Addition and subtraction (up to ten digits) with regrouping including decimals, Multiplication up to 2-digit x 4-digits including decimals, Division facts and long division including decimals, Reading thermometers, Measuring, Making change, Counting change from dollar amounts, Place value from decimals to ten million, Adding and subtracting fractions with unlike denominators, Geometric reasoning, Adding and subtracting times including AM and PM, Applying math properties including distributive, commutative, and associative, Graphing equations, Areas and perimeters of irregular shapes, Areas of triangles, Geometric vocabulary for lines, angles, solids, quadrilaterals, and triangles, Decimal to fraction equivalents, Patterns of change, Unit conversions for volume, length, weight, and time, Negative numbers, Variables, Charts and graphs including coordinate systems, Estimating

Our fourth-grade math lessons use popular math manipulatives. An inexpensive kit has been packaged especially for the curriculum. The curriculum set can be purchased with or without the manipulative kits. Individual items in the kit are also available. A Color Math Super Kit is also available if you teach children in multiple grade levels, so only one kit must be purchased.

The easy-to-use math lesson plans in the Fourth Grade Color Math Teacher’s Manual give daily assignments. Lesson objectives are clearly stated at the beginning of the lesson so you’ll know exactly what you’re teaching. The Materials section of the lesson plan states the materials and manipulatives used in the lesson so you’ll be fully prepared to teach. Most lessons require very little advanced preparation.

Part 1 covers lessons 1 to 80.
Part 2 covers lessons 81 to 160

Teacher’s Manual Sample

The colorful Math Workbook includes three or four activities per daily lesson. The activities include much more than a sheet of problems to solve. Instead, a variety of concepts is offered daily to teach, reinforce, practice, and review concepts.

The back of the workbook is the Space Explorer Game. Directions can be found in the workbook and Teacher’s Manuals. In addition, a printable copy is available in the Resource Center on this website.

As with other levels, students grow in mental math skills and listening skills using our unique Response Book. Students record responses to the teacher-read auditory exercises. The format is self-checking and non-consumable. It now includes a basic skills section for mastering multiplication and division skills that connects the two skills by building an understanding of number families. Drill sheets can be reused by incorporating the transparent flip sheet and responding with dry-erase markers.

The Resource Pack includes a variety of unbound sheets. Copy Masters can be fully consumable or reproduced. The resource pack includes over 100 sheets, including testing materials, additional workbook-like activities, graphing and grid sheets, and shape models (geometric solids). A precut card set is also a part of the pack.

Several posters and game boards are a part of the pack, and a unique overlay system for comparing fractions.
