Geoboard Pictures and Patterns Demo

What is a Flip and Draw Book?

The Geoboard Flip and Draw books feature a flip-out laminated page with geoboard grids to redraw the patterns found inside the book. The laminated page is bound on the right side of the back cover. The unique design allows children to see the designs in the books and draw them on the laminted page with a dry erase marker.

Geoboard Pictures

1. Open the front cover and find the picture you want to use.

2. Continue to rotate pages completely to the back, so that the book is now only 2 pages wide.

3. Flip open the back cover to reveal the laminated geoboard grids.

4. Using a dry erase marker, students redraw the picture on the laminated page.

For more practice:

  • Have your student create a picture on their actual geoboard with rubber bands, and then have them correctly draw it on the laminated page.
  • Have your student draw a picture on the laminated page, and then have them create it with rubber bands on the actual geoboard.

Geoboard Patterns

This flip and draw book is very similar in function to the one above (1-4), yet there are a few key differences.

1. Open the front cover and find the page that has the pattern that you want to use.

2. Continue to rotate pages completely to the back, so that the book is now only 2 pages wide.

3. Flip open the back cover to reveal the laminated geoboard grids.

4. Using a dry erase marker, students redraw the pattern on the laminated page.

There are four different geoboard grids on the laminated page. Each geoboard grid has different dots appearing. Therefore, the student has to approximate how to correctly draw the pattern with missing dots.

For more practice:

  • Rotate the book and redraw the pattern. Since the new "top" was the old "side", your brain sees it differently. Therefore, it's a new puzzle with new reference points to draw. That means you can draw each puzzle from 4 different vantage points!
