The manipulative kit is not included in this package, but a package with the manipulative kit is available.
The McRuffy 3rd Grade Color Math follows the same design as 2nd Color Math. In Addition, the curriculum contains a detailed Teacher’s Manual, a colorful Workbook, Response Book, and Resource Pack containing card sets, games, posters, and more.
The McRuffy Color Math series uses a spiral approach. Concepts are introduced and reviewed throughout the year. This avoids many curricula’ “learn it and forget it” structure that segments concepts into units. Students continue to build on previous learning throughout the year. Sometimes a concept is expounded on. Sometimes a concept is reviewed.
3rd Grade concepts include Addition and subtraction (up to four digits) with regrouping, adding up to four numbers, Roman Numerals, Multiplication facts, Division facts, Reading thermometers, Measuring, Making change (money), Counting change from dollar amounts, Place value from hundredths to millions, Adding and subtracting fractions, Geometric reasoning, Telling time to the nearest minute, Properties, Math tables, Coordinate systems.
The easy-to-use math lesson plans in the Third Grade Color Math Teacher’s Manual give daily assignments. Lesson objectives are clearly stated at the beginning of the lesson so you’ll know exactly what you’re teaching. The Materials section of the lesson plan states the materials and manipulatives used in the lesson so you’ll be fully prepared to teach. Most lessons require very little advanced preparation. The Third Grade Color Math Teacher’s Manual is published in two parts.
Part 1 covers lessons 1 to 80.
Part 2 covers lessons 81 to 161.
The McRuffy Press Third Grade Color Math Workbook allows students to practice and demonstrate skills. Most pages contain two activities. Activities include place value, measuring, graphs, adding and subtracting numbers with multiple digits, estimating, coordinates, area, and perimeter, fractions, story problems, properties of mathematics, geometric exercises, multiplication, division, adding and subtracting fractions, and decimals.
The back cover of the workbook is the Sea Numbers Game. The game directions are in the workbook and Teacher's Manual. A printable copy is in the Resource Center on this website.
Students grow in mental math skills and listening skills using our unique Response Book. Students write responses to the teacher read auditory exercises. Students record answers with dry-erase markers on a transparent plastic sheet. Answers are recorded against a background of boxes and then flipped to an answer page. Students can check their answers. The format is non-consumable. The daily auditory exercise helps build listening skills.
The Resource Pack contains an extensive collection of unbound materials. It includes additional activity sheets, unit tests, timed tests, games, learning mats, posters, and precut cards. The Resource Pack expands the opportunities to learn and support instruction.
The Manipulative Kit is not included in this package, but a package is available that includes both the curriculum and the manipulative kit.
Individual items in the kit are also available. We also offer an upgrade from the First Grade Manipulative Kit to the 2-3 Grade Kit.
If you teach children in multiple grade levels, a Color Math Super Kit is available, so only one kit must be purchased. The Super Manipulative Kit only covers grades K to 4, but an upgrade kit can be added for a 5th-grade student. The 5th Upgrade contains an angle ruler, protractor, and compass.
