First Grade Phonics and Reading Teacher's Manual Part 2 provides daily lesson plans and reference material for lessons 86–175 of the McRuffy First Grade Phonics and Reading curriculum.

Lesson objectives are stated clearly at the beginning of each lesson. The Preparation section lists needed materials, and most lessons require little advance preparation. The Teaching section provides easy-to-follow instruction with light scripting.

Lesson pages also include the text from the reading books so the parent or teacher can follow along with the student's reading.
